Then
Potatoes have always meant a lot in my life. I grew up in a culture where you had potatoes in at least one of the daily meals. How it was served meant less. It could be cooked, raw, fried, mashed, baked, in potato pancakes or potato sausage, but it would be potato. The times I've lived where I've had access to a little cultivable field, I've always grown potatoes. It started in the 60's when I had a small communial garden lot, then on the mother-in-law's farm in Finland. There we grew such a large field so we had our own potatoes all year. We stored it in a root cellar. The photo is when I prepare the potato field a spring. Since then in the USA I have grown potatoes in both Scandia, Minnesota and Hudson, Wisconsin.
Now
Here where I live now,I do not have the opportunity to grow potatoes, but I try to eat potatoes as often as I can. I guess the habits I got in childhood are still alive. Sometimes I buy frozen mashed potatoes that I heat in a saucepan on the stove. There are also so-called tater tots, which I sometimes eat. And so of course French fries, and other forms. I have so far been too lazy to buy raw potatoes, peel and cook it and eat. No, my big passion in the potato field here is the baked potato, which you can buy at the Wendy's restaurant chain. A large baked potato with chives, sour cream and butter for only $ 2.14 It can not get better . We are a bunch of old men who regularly meet there to have baked potatoes and coffee. For us pensioners, the coffee is free, so it has become a cheap meal with a pleasant time - around the potato.
