En av mina trogna läsare kommenterade isläget i Bottenhavet. Det kommer mig osökt att tänka på den tid under 1970-talet då vi bodde i Umeå och var eller varannan vecka åkte över till svärmor, som då hadde flyttat tillbaka till sin lilla gård utanför Vasa. One of my faithful readers commented on the ice situation in the Gulf of Bothnia. It makes me think about the time period during the seventies when we lived in Umeå, Sweden and each or each other week traveled over to my mother in law, who at that time had moved back to her little farm outside Vasa, Finland. We went there both Summer and Winter. During the winter travels it could be a very difficult journey due to the ice. Especially when the ice had been packed together and formed ridges by hard winds. Many were the times when the ferry boats got stuck in the ice and needed assistance from ice breakers to get free. If the ice breakers were on other missions it might happen that we had to wait up to 10 - 12 hours before we could get help. Inside the ferry boat it was warm and beverage and food were available all the time. However it could be boring if you did not have a good book in the luggage. This was before the time of both computers and cell phones.
