Politiker och politik - en fars? Här i Minnesota har det politiska systemet brakat ihop totalt. Delstaten Minnesota är i princip stängd.

Sen den första juli är all icke kritisk verksamhet inställd och 27000 statsanställda personer har blivit utan jobb. Det är den demokratiske guvernören Mark Dayton och den republikanska majoriteten som inte har kunnat komma överens om en budget för det nya budgetåret som började i fredags. Alla delstatliga parker, campingplatser, djurparker, och rest stops längs vägarna är stängda. Inte bra när det just varit storhelg, July 4!. Alla pågående vägarbeten och liknande ligger nere. Det är bara i stort sett polisen, State Troopers, och kritisk hjälpverksamhet som funkar i vanlig utsträckning. Ingen vet om och i så fall när en förlikning kan komma till stånd.

Nästan lika illa är det för landet USA. Även på den nivån håller man på att gå i konkurs. Här är det också en republikansk majoritet som står emot en demokratisk president.

Ibland tycker jag att man blivit mindre benägen att samarbeta och mötas någonstans på mitten för delstatens, eller landets bästa. Det är bara den egna ståndpunkten man tänker på och inte statens eller landets bästa.

Annat var det på min tid i politiken. Inför högertrafikomläggningen i Sverige år 1967 blev jag invald i något som kallades "Ungdomens Trafikriksdag" som hölls i riksdagshuset i Stockholm. Den riksdagen bestod av ungdomliga representanter för olika politiska partier och andra intresseorganisationer. Jag har för mig att vi utarbetade många konkreta och kreativa förslag. Ni som var med 1967 vet ju hur smidigt trafikomläggningen gick.

Med den bakgrunden funderar jag så smått på om jag skulle kasta mig in i politiken här. Först skulle jag fixa Minnesotas problem och sedan skulle jag fixa problemen i USA. Nej, vid närmare eftertanke så inser jag att jag inte är tokig nog för att kvalificera som politiker.

Politicians and politics - a joke? Here in Minnesota the political system has collapsed totally. The state of Minnesota is for the most part closed.

 Since July 1 all non critical service is shut down and 27,000 state employees are without a job. It is the Democratic Governor Mark Dayton and the Republican majority that can not agree on a budget for the new fiscal year that begun last Friday. All State parks, camping sites, and rest stops are closed. Not good as it just have been a holiday, July 4th! All road work and similar are shut down. In general it is the State Troopers and other critical operations that are functioning normally. Nobody knows if and when an agreement can be made.

It is almost as bad on the national level. Even there we are running out of money, and here it also is the Republican majority that opposes a Democratic President.

Sometimes I have a feeling that the politicians have been less open to meet halfway for the best of the state or country. It is only the own party's political agenda that is important and just set aside the best for the state or country.

It was way different when I was active in politics. As a preparation for the switch from left hand traffic to right hand traffic in Sweden in the year of 1967, I was elected to something called "The young peoples traffic congress" which was held in the government building in Stockholm. That congress was made up of young people representing different political parties and other types of youth organizations. I remember how we worked out many creative and distinctive suggestions. You who remember 1967 know how smooth the traffic switch worked.

With this back ground I wonder if I should not jump into politics here. First I would fix the problems in Minnesota, and then I would fix the problems in Washington. No, when I start thinking I realize that I am not crazy enough to qualify as a politician.
