I går kväll när när vi alla i lugn och ro varvade ner efter dagens aktiviteter hördes ett fruktansvärt brak från taket på vårt hus. Katterna sprang åt alla håll och gömde sig under möblerna. Hunden skällde. Chris sprang runt och tittade ut genom fönstren och jag tänkte att nu kraschade en av alla dessa lågtflygande varmluftsbalonger på vårt tak.

Jag gick ut och såg då att det var ett träd som blåst ner och fallit på vårt hus. Toppen hade fastnat bakom skorstenen, men jag såg inga direkta skador på huset eller taket. Trädet hade gått av alldeles nere vid roten och nedre delen av stammen hade nästlat sig fast i ett snår av smärre träd och buskar.

Det var bara för mig att ta fram bågsågen och järnspettet och gå till verket med att få ner trädet från taket. Jag sågade ner småträden och buskaget runt den avbrutna rotänden och så tog jag järnspettet och baxade trädet längre och längre bort från huset. Till slut fick jag det så långt bort att grenarna släppte sitt grepp om skorstenen och trädet föll ner på marken. Som tur var skrapade det inte väggen eller petade hål på något fönster i fallet.

Efter att ha suttit och vilat ett tag på trädstammen så var det bara att ta tag och börja rensa upp. Det blir mycket fin brasved av det torra trädet att glädja sig åt i vinter.

English Version

Yesterday evening, when we were all peacefully rested after the activities of the day, a terrible noise was heard from the roof of our house. The cats ran hither and dither and hid under the furniture. The dog barked. Chris ran around and looked out the windows and I was thinking that one of the low flying hot air balloons had crashed on our roof.

I went out and then I saw that it was a tree that had blown over and landed on our house. The top branches were stuck behind our chimney, but I saw no damage on the house or the roof. The tree had broken off just at the root and the lower end of the tree was tangled up in some small trees and bushes.

The only thing for me to do was to take out the hand saw and an iron bar and begin the mission to get the tree down from our roof. I cut down the small trees and the bushes at the root end of the tree and then took the iron bar and in small jumps moved the tree further and further away from the house. Finally I managed to get it far enough for the top branches to let go of the chimney and the tree fell to the ground. Luckily enough it did not scratch the wall nor break any windows in its fall to the ground.

After sitting resting for a spell on the tree trunk it was time to begin the cleaning up. There will be lots of nice fire wood for the open fire place to enjoy this coming winter.
