På vår väg till en semesterstuga "Up North" i Minnesota stannade vi till i den lilla orten Two Harbors. Det är en viktig utskeppningshamn av takonit från Minnesotas "Iron Range".Transporten från malmfälten till utskeppningshamnen sker med järnväg, The Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range Railway (DM&IR), populärt känd som Missabe Road. Operationen har stora likheter med malmbanan i Sverige mellan Kiruna och Narvik. Tyvärr kunde vi inte se några modernare lok och vagnar vid vårt korta stopp.  

On our way to a vacation home "Up North" in Minnesota we stopped in the small town of Two Harbors. It is an important shipping port of taconite from Minnesota's "Iron Range". Transportation from the ore fields to the shipping port is by rail, The Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range Railway (DM&IR), popularly known as Missabe Road. The operation has great similarities to the ore transportation in Sweden between Kiruna and Narvik. Unfortunately we could not see any modern locomotives and wagons at our short stop.

Även om vi inte såg några nya järnvägsfordon, såg vi två gamla ånglok. Jag sitter framför Baldwin Locomotive Class M4 Mallet # 229, även känd som en Yellowstone. Det byggdes 1943. Det användes för att transportera långa tåg av järnmalm mellan malmfälten och Two Harbors. Det gick i pension 1960.

Even if we did not see any new equipmet,we saw two old steam engines. I am resting in front of the Baldwin Locomotive Class M4 Mallet #229, also known as a Yellowstone. It was built 1943. It was used to haul moile long trains of iron ore between the Iron Range and Two Harbors. It was retired in 1960.

Sen var det dags att köra vidared norrut för vår korta semestertripp.
