Nu har jag börjat skörda årets tomater. Jag har fått tre färdiga hittills, men har minst ett tjugotal kart och dessutom fortfarande en mängd blommor på plantorna. Om alla mognar så blir det verkligen billiga tomater i år. Som ni säkert minns så köpte jag fyra tomatplantor för sammanlagt lite över två dollar. Det betyder att tomaterna kostar mig mindre än tio cent stycket. Det är ju ganska fantastiskt.

Inte nog med att de eget odlade tomaterna blir billiga. De är dessutom goda. De smakar tomat! Vi har varken sprutat mot insekter eller lagt gödningsmedel på dem. När jag planterade dem i våras blandade jag jorden ordentligt med egen organisk kompost, men de var allt. Jag har dock vattnat tomatplantorna så gott som varje kväll. Utom i går kväll då vi fick över tre inches av regn på ett par timmar.

Nu får vi bara se hur länge tomatsäsongen varar i höst. Vissa år har jag kunnat skörda tomater ända in i mitten av oktober och om så blir fallet även i år, så får jag säkert rejäl valuta för de pengar jag satsade på tomatplantor i våras.

I have begun harvesting this years crop of tomatoes. I have picked three ripe ones so far, but there are at least twenty small ones and in addition a lot of blooms on the plants. If all mature, I will really get low cost tomatoes this year. As you probably remember, I bought four tomato plants for little over two dollars all together. That means that each tomato will cost me less than ten cent each. That is rather fantastic.

Not only will the tomatoes be inexpensive. In addition they are tasty. They taste tomato! We haven neither sprayed the plants for bugs or put any kind of fertilizer on the plants. When I planted them this Spring I mixed the soil thoroughly with our own organic compost, but that was all. However, I have watered the tomato plants almost every night. Except for yesterday night when we got over three inches of rain in a few hours.

Now we just have to see how long the tomato growing season will be this Fall. Some years I have been able to pick tomatoes all the way through the middle of October, and if that happens this year also, I will really get a good return on the money I spent on tomato plants this Spring.
