English Version
Fritjof is our oldest cat. He is 19 years old and still going strong. He has had diabetes for many years, but we give him insulin shots morning and evening and check the glucose level periodically. He does not like that as we have to nick his ear, where it is easiest to find surface blood vessels in a cat, to get a drop of blood which we can analyze in a glucose meter to see the glucose level. Then we adjust the amount of insulin if necessary to keep his glucose level under control.
In addition he had a touch of some infection a few weeks ago, which made us worried. We took him to our veterinarian, who put Fritjof on an antibiotic treatment. He is done with the treatment now and is his own old self again.
Certainly he does not jump and rush around as he did 18 years ago, but he runs up and down the stairs between the feline salon on the second level and his beloved sun room, " the dacha" on the first level. In the feline salon he climbs the cats climbing trees and then over to the shelf we mounted in the windows. He is very fond of sunning in the window facing south.
He is, as I said, fairly active and curious, and we want to believe he has a meaningful life. Sometimes we have been a little worried, but then we realize that he is a tough old boy and probably will survive us all.
Fritjof, you are the best!
