Juldagen tog jag det lugnt, Vi böt julklappar på morgonen och sen var det vanliga rutiner med hundmotionering och så vidare.

Resten av dagen ägnade jag åt att läsa en av julklappsböckerna. Den var skriven av en av mina favoritförfattare, John Grisham, och hette "The Confession". Den var en stark kritik mot dödsstraffet och handlade i korthet om en person som blev oskyldigt avrättad i Texas. Den verklige mördaren erkände brottet fyra dar innan avrättningen, men ingen som hade befogenhet att stoppa avrättningen av den oskyldige tog honom på allvar. En mycket gripande och skrämmande bok.

I femton av USA's delstater är dödsstraffet avskaffat, bland dem Minnesota och Wisconsin. Av de delstater som fortfarande har dödsstraff leder Texas stort statistiken över antalet avrättade, med 10 avrättningar i medeltal per år. Som andra stat kommer Virginia med i medeltal 3 avrättningar per år.

I de Nordiska länderna är dödsstraffet avskaffat. Jag har dock sett artiklar som säger att i och med EU medlemsskapet och de internationella terroristlagar som därmed gäller för samtliga medlemsländer, så finns dödsstraffet i princip i alla medlemsländer.

Personligen är jag helt emot dödsstraff. Det är för definitivt, ingen återvändo om nya bevis och ny information skulle komma i dagen.

Jag ser som sagt Gishams bok som ett inlägg i debatten mot dödsstraffet, men vet inte hur stort inflytande den kan ha.

Den oskyldigt avrättade som har gett de största konsekvenserna i hela världen är avrättningen av den man vars födelsedag vi just firat, nämligen Jesus Kristus.

I took it easy Christmas Day. We exchanged Christmas presents in the morning and then it was the usual routines including dog exercise and so on.

The rest of the day I was reading one of the books I got for Christmas. It was written by one of my favorite writers, John Grisham, and was titled "The Confession". The book was a strongly criticizing the death penalty and the story was about an innocent person who was executed in Texas. The real killer confessed to the crime four days before the execution, but nobody that had the power to stop the execution took him seriously. A very emotional and scary book.

In fifteen of the States in the US the death penalty is abolished , among those states are Minnesota and Wisconsin. Among those states that still allows death penalty Texas is the leading styate in the average n umber of gexecuted persons with 10 executions per year. Virginia ison second place with an average of 3 executions per year.

In the Nordic countries the death penalty is abolished. However I have seen articles saying that as the countries are members of the European Union, the international terrorist laws are in effect for them too, and thus principally the death penalty exists in all those countries.

Personally I am strongly against the death penalty. It is to final, no return if new evidences or information would be discovered.

I see, as I said, Grisham's book as an addition to the debate against the death penalty, bot do not know how much influence it will have.

The innocent executed person that has had the greatest influence in the world is the execution of the man whose birthday we just celebated, Jesu Christ.
